Asake’s ‘Lungu Boy’ Matches Burna Boy & Davido’s US Apple Music Record.
Asake’s third album, ‘Lungu Boy,’ is making waves on streaming charts worldwide. The Nigerian sensation, Ahmed Ololade, better known as Asake, has matched the US Apple Music chart record set by fellow Nigerian superstars Burna Boy and Davido.
Released on Friday, August 8, 2024, ‘Lungu Boy‘ features an impressive lineup, including Nigerian Afrobeats icon Wizkid, American rapper Travis Scott, Brazilian singer Ludmilla, and British rappers Stormzy and Central Cee.
The album’s experimental sound is resonating with audiences globally.
Meanwhile, just hours after its release, ‘Lungu Boy’ soared to #2 on the United States Apple Music album chart. This achievement makes it the third Afrobeats album to reach this position, equaling the highest-charting Nigerian albums on the platform, a record previously held by Davido’s ‘Timeless’ and Burna Boy’s ‘I Told Them,’ both released in 2023.
Additionally, Asake’s highly anticipated collaboration with Wizkid, “MMS,” made a stunning debut on streaming platforms, amassing over 121,000 streams on Spotify Nigeria within six hours of its release. This remarkable achievement earned the track a debut at #9 on the platform’s charts.
Notably, “MMS” is reportedly the first song in history to surpass 100,000 streams on Spotify Nigeria in such a short tracking period, highlighting the immense popularity of both Asake and Wizkid.
“Lungu Boy,” the album featuring “MMS,” follows Asake’s previous successful projects, “Mr. Money With The Vibe” and “Work of Art,” which have firmly established him as a leading figure in the Afrobeats genre.
