Davido urges well-wishers to send him bitcoin at wedding.
Nigerian music superstar Davido has ignited conversations with a unique request for Bitcoin as wedding gifts.
During his wedding celebrations yesterday, the musician made it clear to his hundreds of guests about the various currencies he accepts.
Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, the MC of the event, informed attendees that they could give gifts in pounds, euros, and dollars. In a now-viral video clip circulating on social media, Davido is seen urging his guests to consider giving Bitcoin as a gift.
He humorously asked the crowd, “I dey here, cash app na dollar. One Bitcoin na how much again?” [In English: “I’m here, Cash App is for dollars. How much is one Bitcoin again?”]
He also added, “spray na Naira” [In English: “spraying money is Naira”], referring to the Nigerian tradition of spraying money at celebrations.
Davido continued, “If you no fit spray Naira and I no want ‘OBO I go give you tomorrow’, I no want that one” [In English: “If you can’t spray Naira and I don’t want ‘OBO I go give you tomorrow,’ I don’t want that.”]
Davido’s request has sparked a range of reactions on social media. Some fans applaud his embrace of digital currency, while others view it as ostentatious or unnecessary.
Known for his recent cryptocurrency-related ventures, Davido managed to bring the topic into his wedding celebrations, continuing to steer conversations towards modern financial trends.
