Ruger shades former label, Jonzing World
Nigerian singer Ruger, who recently parted ways with his former record label, Jonzing World, has responded to a fan’s jab about his post-label music career.
The fan, @efekoga, tweeted today, Friday, June 7, 2024, “No hit since you left Jonzing,” suggesting that Ruger, had not released any successful songs since leaving the label.
Ruger quickly fired back, “No hit for Jonzing since I left Jonzing,” implying that the label had not achieved any success since his departure. This response is the latest in a series of public digs at his former label, which he has accused of exploiting him and using his funds to support new artists.
Ruger’s departure from Jonzing World, led by D’Prince, was announced on February 6, 2024, and has been followed by a public feud between the two parties. The singer has been vocal about his dissatisfaction with his contract and treatment during his time at the label.
In addition, Ruger put forth the idea during a guest appearance on the Cocktails and Takeaways podcast on Wednesday, May 1, 2024, advocating for a joint musical venture and subsequent world tour involving the trio.
His suggestion comes amidst a period of heightened tension between Davido and Wizkid, marked by a flurry of online exchanges filled with sharp remarks. Despite the ongoing feud, Ruger believes collaboration could serve as a unifying force within the industry.
During the podcast, Ruger elaborated that he and fellow artist BNXN could handle the composition of the songs, while Wizkid, Davido, and Burna Boy would focus on the performance aspect.
While Ruger’s proposal has garnered attention from fans and industry insiders, reactions have been mixed. Some fans express skepticism and disagreement, pointing out the complexities and rivalries inherent within the music scene.
