ID Cabasa weighs in on the conflict between new generation artists and legends

In a recent episode of the ‘Afrobeats Podcast,’ veteran record producer Olumide Ogunade, popularly known as ID Cabasa, shared his perspective on the conflict between new generation artists and legends in the Nigerian music industry.

The tensions escalated when veteran singer Eedris Abdulkareem criticized Burna Boy for claiming that no Nigerian artist paved the way for him in the music industry.

This disagreement sparked a social media firestorm between the two, with emerging rapper OdumoduBlvck and other new artists siding with Burna Boy, while Jaywon and some veterans supported Abdulkareem.

ID Cabasa emphasized the importance of mutual understanding between the new generation of artists and veterans for peace to prevail in the Nigerian music industry. He stressed that newcomers should respect the veterans, while the veterans should exhibit more honor in their interactions.

He said, “The new guys need to respect the OGs. The OGs need to be more honourable. You are not competing against these guys. If you see yourself as a competition to these guys, what you’ve done is that you’ve mortgaged your honour.”

The producer urged music legends to support young artists instead of “being too critical” of them.
