Talented Nigerian singer Oludipe Oluwasanmi David, popularly known as Spyro, recently made a nostalgic return to his alma mater, the University of Ibadan (UI), on Thursday, March 21, 2024.
During his visit, Spyro had the pleasure of meeting with key members of the school management, including Deputy Vice-Chancellor Administration, Professor Peter O. Olapegba.
Renowned for his hit track “Who is your Guy?,” Spyro shared a heartwarming video on Sunday, March 24, 2024, capturing his trip down memory lane at UI. He fondly reminisced about his undergraduate days, revealing how he was once perceived as a nuisance for enthusiastically promoting his music on campus.
Expressing profound emotion, Spyro reflected on his journey and expressed gratitude for the opportunity to reconnect with his former lecturers and the Vice-Chancellor.
In an emotional caption accompanying the video, he contemplated his transformation from being dismissed to now being celebrated, as some school officials affectionately referred to him as “their guy.”
He wrote, “So I decided to go back to my alma Mata Unibadan with my producer @mrsoulofficial and I held his hands at a point and shed a tear as I remembered how I was a nuisance to many because I was pushing my music back then on campus 🥲 Now look at me back to the same UNI 🥲 THE REJECTED STONE HAS NOW BECOME THE CHIEF CORNER STONE…”
“It all started here about 15 years ago and coming back here meeting with my lecturers and VC’s makes me break down in thanksgiving .Many don come many don go but I STILL DE HERE. Guys in what ever you do, stay consistent, at first people will hate and discourage you but keep going, it will all be worth it,” he added.
