Once again, Wizkid’s acclaimed album Made in Lagos has secured a spot on the Billboard World Album Chart for the fifth consecutive year, marking a remarkable achievement in music history.

The Nigerian superstar’s critically acclaimed album, Made in Lagos, has solidified its place as the first African album to chart on the Billboard World Albums chart for five consecutive years.

This milestone not only showcases Wizkid’s enduring global appeal but also underscores the album’s timeless significance in the music industry.

Having ranked in 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, and now 2024, Made in Lagos, released in 2020, continues to captivate audiences worldwide. The album garnered nominations at the 64th Grammy Awards for Best Global Music Album and Best Global Music Performance.

Featuring 14 tracks and guest appearances from esteemed artists such as Burna Boy, Skepta, H.E.R., Ella Mai, and others, Made in Lagos received further acclaim with its deluxe edition, released on August 27, 2021, which included collaborations with Buju and Justin Bieber. In the 2024 edition of the Billboard World Album Chart, the album secured the 19th position.

In a poignant move, Wizkid has announced the completion of his sixth studio album, titled Morayo, as a tribute to his late mother. Jane Dolapo Balogun, who passed away on August 18, 2023, was laid to rest in October of the same year. Morayo marks Wizkid’s heartfelt homage to his beloved mother and signifies a new chapter in his illustrious career.

In a recent post, Grammy award-winning singer and performer Wizkid declared that he views the concept of afrobeats as artificial, stating that it is not a distinct genre of music.

Wizkid had previously hinted at his reluctance to be labeled as an afrobeats artist in earlier social media posts. In his recent post shared on Saturday, March 16, 2024, he elaborated on his stance, explaining why he believes afrobeats is not a genre.

The singer expressed that throughout his extensive and successful career, he has explored various musical styles.
