In addition, Davido has contributed to the ongoing discussion surrounding Afrobeats and R&B,, offering insights into the nuanced distinctions between the two genres.
In a resurfaced video, Davido articulated his perspective on the matter, highlighting the differences between R&B and Afrobeats.
He acknowledged notable R&B artists like Johnny Drille, Chike, and Banky W, noting that some of his own tracks align with the R&B genre. Contrary to common misconceptions, Davido clarified that Afrobeats is not a distinct style of music but rather a term used to categorize African musicians.
Davido emphasized the cultural significance embedded within Afrobeats, underscoring its roots in African musical traditions.
He also discussed the evolving nature of Afrobeats, citing examples such as Odumodublvck, an African hip-hop artist primarily known for drill music but still classified under the Afrobeats genre.
