Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has expressed his frustration at the decision not to award his team a penalty late in their clash against Manchester City.

Klopp, echoing the sentiments of many in the football world, strongly believed that his side should have been awarded a penalty when Jeremy Doku caught Alexis Mac Allister high on the chest in the box towards the end of the Premier League match. The German manager revealed that the analysts in his coaching staff, who were closely monitoring the game on iPads, were convinced that the decision would be overturned in Liverpool’s favor and a spot-kick would be given. However, to Klopp’s dismay, no penalty was awarded, leaving Doku relieved and Klopp visibly frustrated.

Speaking to BBC Match of the Day, Klopp said: “It was 100 per cent a penalty. They will find an explanation. It was 100% a foul in all areas of the pitch and probably a yellow card. All the people with iPads around me were: ‘Wow, clear’. Maybe they can hide behind the phrase it is not clear and obvious. It is of course a penalty but we didn’t get it and that is fine. The most important thing for me is that we can play football like that. I saw so many sensational performances today.”

If Liverpool had been awarded a last-minute penalty to secure a win against City, they would have reclaimed the top spot in the Premier League. However, with the match ending in a draw, Arsenal maintains their position at the top of the table with just 10 games remaining.

Arsenal’s victory over Brentford earlier in the weekend positioned them to capitalize on any dropped points by City or Liverpool. Mikel Arteta, Arsenal’s manager, will likely be pleased with the late decision not to award a penalty.

Jurgen Klopp, Liverpool’s manager, won’t dwell on what could have been and will instead focus on returning to winning form in their upcoming match against Sparta Prague. Liverpool holds a commanding 5-1 lead heading into the second leg of the Europa League round of 16 tie.
