Ill Bliss speaks on his journey towards making his new album
Nigerian rapper and actor Ill Bliss recently took to social media to unveil the cover and tracklist for his highly anticipated new album, “Sideh Kai.” Scheduled for release on February 24, 2024, the album features collaborations with a stellar lineup of Nigerian musicians, including Fave, Odumodublack, Made Kuti, Teni, Vector, Cobhams Asuquo, and more.
In an interview with Channels News, Ill Bliss reflected on his journey leading up to the creation of his seventh album, noting that it marks his latest release since 2020. He candidly discussed his temporary departure from the music scene to explore acting and television opportunities.
When asked about the four-year gap preceding his latest album, he revealed that it was largely due to personal reasons, particularly the birth of his daughter and his foray into television. Ill Bliss shared that his daughter was born prematurely at 25 weeks, coinciding with the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, which understandably demanded his full attention and care during that period.
He said, “At some point I felt this was God saying it’s time to hang your boots. I have six albums and four EPs. I felt I had put in my quota to the music industry”. During the interview he was asked how he has been able to stay relevant from 2009 till now. He said, “The music business has changed dramatically. It’s a totally new day in the music business. The only constant thing is change. I am just blessed and privileged to always be in the middle of the change”.
The artist elucidates that while he is capable of adjusting his sound and lyrics to align with prevailing industry trends when required, he steadfastly adheres to preserving his essence. He reiterates his identity as a rapper and emphasizes his dedication to upholding this fundamental aspect of his artistry.
