Nigerian artist Spyro spoke about his album and expressed his belief that he sees himself as the next-rated Nigerian artist in an interview.
Spyro released an album in November 2024 titled “Next Rated,” and the album cover featured him in gold, bearing a resemblance to the Headies Award trophy.
The Headies Award for Next Rated was announced in September 2023, with Asake being the winner.
In the interview, Spyro mentioned that he believes Asake deserved the award, but in his world, he considers himself the next-rated artist. He emphasized the concept of self-perception, stating, “you call yourself what you want people to call you.”
Spyro’s perspective highlights the subjective nature of artist recognition and the importance of self-affirmation in the music industry.

Recall, Mp3bullet reported that Spyro has been candid about his connection to religion, revealing that his current perspective is a departure from his past feelings. In a recent episode of the Tea with Tay Podcast, hosted by Emmanuel Taymesan, the singer shared insights into his upbringing in the Mushin area of Lagos.
Spyro discussed his upbringing as a pastor’s son, emphasizing that during that period, he harbored resentment towards God due to his father’s influence.
He began; “My father was quite strict and he’s a pastor so you know the way pastors are with their kids. They’re really strict because they have this ideology that their children are the ones that…” after which Taymesan chimed in saying, “Na we dey spoil pass,” and Spyro nodded in agreement.
