‘Let firstborns breathe’—Singer Simi tells Nigerians

Well-renowned musician Simisola Kosoko, better known by her stage as Simi, has advised Nigerian parents to stop making unreasonable demands of their firstborn children.

According to her, being the firstborn does not entail providing for the material needs of every family member.

According to the mother of one, some firstborns have experienced panic episodes as a result of their family members’ persistent demands.

Firstborns should also learn how to set boundaries when it comes to lending support to family members, Simi said, noting that they should also have peace of mind.

On her X handle, she wrote: “Y’all need to let your first borns breathe. They came first does not mean they should carry everybody’s load. Many of them don’t even like you anymore, because when you text them na so so panic attack. They’re just not allowed to say it. Let them breathe.

“Also, first born sef learn how to say no and set boundaries. You deserve peace too.”
