Manchester United ‘cut short’ Sergio Reguilon’s loan from Tottenham
Manchester United is reportedly set to send Sergio Reguilon back to Tottenham Hotspur after agreeing to cut short his season-long loan. Reguilon, who joined United in the summer of 2023, has made 12 appearances for the club, providing cover at left-back due to injuries to Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia.
The decision to return Reguilon to Tottenham comes as United’s left-back situation has improved with the return of Shaw to fitness, and Malacia is also nearing a comeback. The club has alternative options, with right-back Diogo Dalot and midfielder Sofyan Amrabat filling in on the left when needed.
United had initially considered a move for Chelsea’s Marc Cucurella before signing Reguilon, but they couldn’t reach an agreement with the Blues.
Tottenham may decide to keep Reguilon for the rest of their season, as both clubs are only competing in the Premier League and FA Cup. However, the possibility of him leaving on loan again exists, provided he does not make a first-team appearance this month. FIFA rules state that players can only feature for two clubs in any given season.
Tottenham’s upcoming matches include a FA Cup clash against Burnley on Friday and a Premier League fixture against United on Sunday, January 14.
