I won’t drink alcohol even if a brand offers me N50 billion – Singer, Sexy Steel
Nigerian singer and actor Sexy Steel has affirmed his principled stance on abstaining from alcohol, stating that he would not drink even if offered a staggering sum of N50 billion.
He made this revelation during an appearance on the Frankly Speaking podcast with OAP Nedu, alongside ID Cabasa.
Sexy Steel recalled a significant incident where his principled decision resulted in the loss of a major endorsement deal with Guinness.
During a meeting with the company’s management team, they requested that he taste one of their new products, but he declined due to his abstinence from alcohol.
Despite his refusal, the company insisted that, as a potential brand ambassador, he needed to sample the product. Unwilling to compromise his principles, Sexy Steel stood firm, leading Guinness to offer the deal to music legend Innocent Idibia, popularly known as Tubaba.
Reflecting on the incident, Sexy Steel mentioned that his manager was initially upset with him, questioning his decision to reject such a lucrative deal over a matter of principle.
However, years later, he encountered one of the top executives of the company at an event who commended him for maintaining his no-alcohol stance. The executive expressed that Sexy Steel’s commitment to his principles made him realize that money is not everything.
In the podcast discussion, ID Cabasa expressed disbelief at Sexy Steel’s decision, to which the artist reiterated that even if he were offered N50 billion, he would not compromise his stance on abstaining from alcohol. This anecdote sheds light on the values and principles that individuals in the entertainment industry may uphold, even at the cost of significant financial opportunities.
