‘I saw this in my sleep every night ‘ – Blacko says as he accepts his BET Hip Hop Award
Ghanaian music sensation Black Sherif has proudly clinched the prestigious Best International Flow award at the 2023 BET Hip Hop Awards.
Facing formidable competition from nine accomplished rappers, including Aka and K.O from South Africa and Sampa The Great from Zimbabwe, Black Sherif emerged as the triumphant artist, solidifying his presence on the global stage.
During his acceptance speech, Black Sherif, who has enjoyed a remarkable career since his journey began four years ago, disclosed that he had a premonition of winning this award in a dream.
He also emphasized the significance of resilience in his journey and extended a heartfelt invitation to all in attendance to reconnect with their roots in Africa, a place where they are esteemed as kings and queens.
“I saw this in my sleep every night. I started making music four years ago in a small city in Ghana called Konongo Zongo and there was no way nobody was going to convince me that I wouldn’t be here, that my music wasn’t going global.
Thank you so much BET, thank you to God, thank you to my mum, thank you to my dad, and thank you to my team. I love you guys so much and to each and every one of you here, Remember you are kings and queens back home, welcome back home.”
Recorded at the Cobb Energy Center in Atlanta, Georgia, on Tuesday, October 3, this year’s event celebrated 50 years of Hip Hop in a continuous and vibrant party.
Black Sherif’s nomination in this category this year marked his second time being recognized for this honor.
