Nigerian Afrobeat singer kuforiji Olaitan Abdulrahman, also known as Oxlade has revealed that he was unable to complete his university education because he was being pressured by cultists to join their group. The artist shared this information during an interview on the Tea with Tay Podcast.

Oxlade explained that during his time at Lagos State University (LASU), he was focused on his studies and often found solace in the church while reading the Bible and books. However, he decided to drop out of university in his final year because he was being pressured to join a gang.

He recalled an incident when the gang attempted to initiate him and even stormed his hostel. Fortunately, Oxlade had traveled to Ibadan as per his grandmother’s request at the time. His friends who remained in the hostel were seriously beaten, some with life-threatening injuries.

Oxlade expressed his gratitude for his grandmother’s role in his life and acknowledged that he had been saved by divine intervention multiple times. He emphasized the importance of faith and the belief that there is a higher power that protects individuals.

The artist also mentioned that he returned to his music career with renewed determination, referring to it as coming back “twice as tall,” echoing the title of Burna Boy’s album.
