Napoli drop official statement on Victor Osimhen’s situation
Napoli, a Serie A team, has issued an official statement to clarify the circumstances surrounding Victor Osimhen and the club.
On September 28, 2023, the Serie A champions for 2022–2023 officially declared via their website that they had no desire to jeer or degrade Victor Osimhen in their Tiktok video. They contend that the Super Eagles player is a benefit to the team and will be treated as such.
“Calcio Napoli, wishing to avoid any exploitation of the issue, point out that we never wanted to offend or mock Victor Osimhen, who is a treasure of this club. As proof of that, during the summer training retreat, the Club firmly rebuffed every offer that was received for the striker’s transfer abroad.
Social media, in particular TikTok, has always used an expressive form of language with a light heart and creativity, without wanting to, as in the case with Osimhen as protagonist, have any intention of insult or derision. In any case, if Victor perceived any offence towards him, this was not what the club intended.”
Osimhen became furious after discovering a video of him on the team’s official TikTok account making a funny, high-pitched plea for a penalty against Bologna before shooting wide of the mark.
Roberto Calenda, the player’s agent, threatened legal action against Napoli, and Osimhen virtually all of the photos of him wearing the team’s shirt from his official Instagram account.
