AFRIMA has conveyed its deep sorrow following the tragic passing of the Nigerian street-hop sensation Mohbad, whose real name was Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba.

The All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA) have underscored the urgent need for regulating and formalizing the music entertainment sector. AFRIMA joins countless African youths and music enthusiasts in mourning the loss of Nigeria’s beloved singer, Mohbad.

Mohbad’s untimely demise on Tuesday, September 12, 2023, has triggered a profound response from the public. At just 27 years old, this budding music star, also known as Imole (Light), showcased remarkable talent and creativity. His captivating lyrics warmed the hearts of millions of fans worldwide.

In a statement, Mike Dada, the President and Executive Producer of AFRIMA lamented Africa’s loss of a promising talent within its rapidly expanding music industry, underscoring the pressing need for institutionalizing the music and entertainment sectors. This move aims to address the unprofessional practices that have persisted within the industry across Africa.

AFRIMA’s concerns resonate with the growing demand for justice in the wake of the late musician’s passing, which has raised suspicions of possible foul play. The Nigerian Police are actively conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s tragic death, and the public eagerly awaits the results.

In addition to the ongoing investigation, musicians and celebrities, both in Nigeria and on the international stage, have paid heartfelt tributes to the late street-hop sensation. Prominent figures such as Kodak Black, Lil Durk, and Meek Mill have all extended their condolences and recognition to Mohbad, whose music has experienced a resurgence on streaming platforms in Nigeria.
