Hails other music legends; Sunny Ade, Ebenezer Obey
Veteran singer, 9ice has said that late Afrobeat pioneer, Fela Anikulapo Kuti set a ladder for Nigerian musicians to climb to the top.
Speaking in an interview with ‘Sis Project Studios’, 9ice noted that Fela as the originator of Afrobeat, introduced what has paved the way for many artistes to leverage.
He observed that back then, other artistes were experimenting with various genres and looking for opportunities to share their talents with the public. While Fela continued along a route in the Afrobeat genre that was recognized all over the world.
In his words:
“Fela Anikulapo-Kuti gave us the platform which is Afrobeat for us to climb on top. We were trying to do Afropop. We were trying to do afrobeats. We were trying to do different names. But Baba [Fela] already has something that the world recognized.
“Afrobeat taught me a lot. King Sunny Ade, Ebenezer Obey, and Fela Anikulapo-Kuti are our grandfathers. And I’m glad to be in existence to emulate or to follow what they’ve done,” He said.
