Chelsea agree British-record £115m fee for Moises Caicedo.
For midfielder, Moises Caicedo, Chelsea and Brighton have reached a record-breaking £115 million contract.
According to reports, the Blues will pay a base sum of £100 million plus £15 million in performance-based bonuses.
Brighton has given Caicedo permission to undergo a Chelsea medical, which is scheduled for Monday.
The midfielder will sign an eight-year deal with an additional year’s option.
Chelsea plans to spend £100 million up front with an additional £15 million in possible add-ons, half of which they think will be more easily attained than the other. As part of the agreement, Brighton will also have a sell-on clause.
The west London club had previously been thought to be Caicedo’s top suitors, but Liverpool made a last-minute approach for the 21-year-old on Thursday, and Brighton accepted their offer of £110 million.
Then, on Friday, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp announced that a deal had been reached for his team to sign Caicedo, although he would not confirm whether the Ecuadorian international would be having a medical before the proposed transfer.
Later on Friday, Chelsea’s move for USMNT international Tyler Adams collapsed. They had been close to signing Adams from Leeds United, with the 24-year-old having an active relegation release clause of around £20m.
Chelsea very probably remained the favorites to sign him despite having had their proposal accepted first due to Liverpool’s tardy arrival into negotiations and the Ecuadorian international’s current location in London.
