My mum is everything – Seyi Vibez opens up about losing his mother
Buzzing street-hop artist Seyi Vibez has talked about his background, musical career, and the loss of his mother.
He took a deep dive speaking to British-Nigerian podcaster, Adesope Olajide on his popular Afrobeats Podcast.
“My mum is just everything you know? I don’t want to talk about her too much so I don’t get emotional”, he said when asked how her passing affected him. He also admitted that he planned to surprise her by buying her a house before she passed away, but he was unable to do so.
Seyi continued by explaining how he stopped recording music in order to properly grieve and that he did not release any songs at that time.
He explained that the death of his mother was the cause of the delayed record releases and the first postponement of his UK tour.
He also discussed his upbringing, saying that he was born and reared in the Lagos State neighbourhood of Ketu, where they remained until he was 13 years old. He then moved with his mother to Ikorodu to begin a fresh life after his family was uprooted due to unanticipated circumstances at that time.
“When they hear you’re from Ikorodu, they think you don’t know anything. But you can be from the ghetto and still be classy”, he said to the host.
At many points during the interview, Seyi expressed gratitude to his family for their support, even though he began his musical career at the age of 14. While speaking, he acknowledged his family with several shoutouts.
The singer said, “After God, my mother, father, family then my fanbase. My family is very important in my life so I don’t joke. Since I dropped my first album ‘million dollar baby’, my family has been thankful to God.”
