Marcus Rashford set to sign new five-year contract with Manchester United

Manchester United forward, Marcus Rashford is set to commit his prime years to the club by signing a new five-year contract worth £78 million.

The contract, worth £300,000-a-week, will run until 2028, securing Rashford’s future with the club into his 30s.

The new deal comes after more than a year of negotiations, during which there were talks with Paris Saint-Germain. However, Rashford’s preference was always to stay with his hometown club.

The pay rise of £50,000-a-week will make Rashford one of the highest-paid English players in the game, with only Chelsea’s Raheem Sterling believed to be earning more.

The contract extension is a reward for Rashford’s exceptional season, bouncing back from a difficult campaign to score 30 goals for Manchester United, becoming the first player since Robin van Persie to achieve this milestone.

Rashford will miss the upcoming friendly against Lyon due to reporting late for pre-season training with the rest of the international players. Meanwhile, Manchester United is finalizing the signing of goalkeeper Andre Onana from Inter Milan as David de Gea’s replacement.

Onana is expected to fly to Manchester for a medical and sign a five-year contract. United is also closing in on a deal for Atalanta striker Rasmus Hojlund. The team will embark on a four-match tour of the US, facing Arsenal, Real Madrid, Borussia Dortmund, and Wrexham.
