Rapper Erigga reveals why he withdraws from Headies Award
Nigerian hip-hop artist Erhiga Agarivbie, popularly known as Erigga, recently revealed that he has been boycotting the Headies Award since his album ‘The Erigma II’ lost in the Best Rap Album category at the 14th edition of the award show in 2020.
Erigga accused the Headies organizers of showing disrespect towards artists from the South-South region of Nigeria. He expressed his disappointment and frustration with the awards and made these allegations via his Twitter account shortly after the nominees for the 16th Headies were announced.
Despite releasing his album ‘The Lost Boy’ during the year under review, Erigga did not receive any nominations for the prestigious award show.
His decision to boycott the Headies reflects his discontentment with the selection process and perceived regional bias, as he believes artists from the South-South region are not given adequate recognition.
Venting his anger on Twitter, Erigga shared the art cover of his 2020 album ‘The Erigma II’, with the caption: “Na from here I don take boycott all these f*ckers (Headies) the disrespect was too much for the south south to take… If you don’t like us and not going to respect our craft then it’s f*ck you and everything you represent; that’s it.”
