In light of his connections to Saudi Arabia, Son Heung-Min appeared to be taking a subtle dig at Cristiano Ronaldo when he said that “money doesn’t matter” to him.

The lavish Saudi Pro League has set its sights on Son, and Al-Ittihad is reportedly considering a proposal. According to BBC Sport, they were prepared to offer Son a four-year contract worth £25.6 million ($32.6 million) per season, but they also signed Karim Benzema during this transfer window.

Son said, in what could be read as a dig at the league’s spending power: “I have many things to do in the Premier League. Money doesn’t matter to me now, and the pride of playing football, to play in my favourite league is important.”

Three Chelsea players, Hakim Ziyech, Edouard Mendy, and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, have all been linked to prospective moves to different teams. The well-funded Saudi Pro League is still ongoing. Son, though, won’t be travelling with them.

Son is most likely to participate when Spurs take on West Ham in their opening preseason game in Australia, which will be Ange Postecoglou’s first game in charge.
