Rafael Leao ‘signs a new FIVE-YEAR contract with AC Milan’.
According to reports, AC Milan star Rafael Leao has signed a new five-year contract with the Italian team.
The highly-rated winger has had a standout season with the Serie A giants, scoring 13 goals and 13 assists so far this season. He has been drawing attention from a number of teams, including Liverpool and Chelsea, ahead of the summer.
He also played a key role in his team’s Scudetto victory last season, which earned Milan their first Serie A title in 11 years.
Leao has decided to stay at Milan until June 2028, despite attracting the attention of many elite teams this summer, according to The Athletic.
The 23-year-old star, who suffered a thigh injury in the opening 11 minutes of Saturday’s match against Lazio, is still questionable for the first leg of the Champions League semi-final against bitter rivals Inter.
Leao had come to Milan’s team hotel to join the group, but it is still unknown if he would be able to play in the crucial semifinal match.
According to Italian reports, Milan would know by Wednesday noon whether Leao would play against Inter, but head coach Stefano Pioli said on Tuesday that he would wait until the very last minute before making a decision.
‘Tomorrow (Wednesday) he will try to push himself to the maximum to understand if he can take part in the match,’ Pioli said after Leao returned to training on Tuesday.
‘If I call him up, it will be because he’s fit to play. If the tests are fine, he could even start.’
The winning San Siro outfit will face either Manchester City or Real Madrid in the Champions League final next month.
