Nigerian rapper, Vector has expressed his dissatisfaction with the actions of some of the nation’s elders who are supposed to serve as role models for the younger generation.

He pointed out in a series of tweets that these elderly are preoccupied with degrading themselves by belittling the young people.

Vector argues that if these elders were genuinely good at their jobs, this behaviour would be more bearable.

He cited Femi Fani-Kayode, a former aviation minister, as an example. According to him, Fani-Kayode is frequently attacked not for his appearance but rather for failing to follow through on his academically sound declarations.

“It just occurred to me that presently, the elders we are supposed to be respecting are busy disrespecting themselves calling their youth (the people’s future) all sorts of names.

“It could have made pardonable sense if they (the “elders” ) were truly excellent in public office.

“For example, no one is dissing FFK because he looks like a fly frog on aviators on his dp. No, they diss him because he’s not a man of any of his plenty academically sound utterances.

“These are men of Public office representing the people they are fighting lol,” Vector wrote.

The rapper also emphasised the necessity for public officials to conduct themselves with professionalism and civility, even when using social media, given that many of them serve as representatives of the very people they are fighting.

According to Vector, some of these officials ought to have social media managers to make sure that their online personas are consistent with their official responsibilities.

“Public officer serves both sides of the coin… It comes with the office.

“Many of them should have a social media manager because they are busy fixing the wear and tear in the country but Festus has appeared on social media more than he has showed up in any office he holds or Court,” he tweeted.

A good example of how a leader should deal with the people who are concerned about his/her role is Arsenal’s Granit Xhaka. The people supporting the team he plays for booed him on the pitch at some point but he will always come out and do his job for the team he plays for, not…
