Following his dismissal by the Toffees, Chelsea legend Frank Lampard has delivered a heartfelt letter to Everton fans.

The former manager of Derby and Chelsea left Goodison Park permanently on Monday following a 10-game losing streak that included eight defeats.

Everton is currently 19th in the table after 20 games as a result of that skid, and there is genuine concern that the club, which has never been demoted from the Premier League, will be competing in the Championship next year.

In January 2022, Lampard replaced the unpopular Rafael Benitez in the Merseyside squad. With a memorable 3-2 comeback victory over Crystal Palace, Lampard was able to ensure the team’s survival.

However, the renowned England midfielder was unable to capitalise on that success, and many believe that the club’s persistent internal strife is also to blame for their recent collapse.

The 44-year-old has now issued a statement following his dismissal, which reads: ‘Coming in to Everton last year I knew we were in a tough moment and I will always be proud of the incredible work and support from everyone involved to keep the team in the Premier League last season.

‘Thanks to everybody that played their part as the whole club came together. I will never forget the incredible night against Palace that we shared.

‘I want to thank all Evertonians for the welcome that you gave to myself, my staff, and my family. It truly is a special club with a huge heart, and an incredible history.

‘I’m disappointed that we couldn’t achieve more together and wish all the players and everyone at Everton FC the very best for the future.’

Regarding Lampard’s replacement, Marcelo Bielsa had come to London on Thursday to continue discussions with Everton’s management.

It is unknown if the former Leeds manager is enthusiastic about the prospect of working there, despite reports to the contrary.

While Sam Allardyce, Wayne Rooney, and former Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl are still in the running, former Burnley manager Sean Dyche is presently listed as the favourite over Bielsa.

Everton will be hoping to have Lampard’s successor in place before their next game, which is against league-leading Arsenal on February 4.
