Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp issued an apology to Pep Guardiola after the Manchester City manager complained that he had coins thrown at him by Liverpool supporters at Anfield.
Liverpool is looking into the incident and has promised to impose a lifelong ban on any supporters found to have thrown anything at Guardiola.
Speaking about the incident after City’s 1-0 defeat at Anfield, Guardiola sarcastically said: ‘Next time we will do it better. It didn’t get me. They try it again next year. All these coins, they tried, but didn’t get it. They got the coach years ago.’
And when he was alerted to Guardiola’s complaints, Klopp said: ‘Oh, horrible. I am sorry. I apologise for that. I had no idea about it. It never should happen, never.’

A statement from Liverpool read: ‘We are aware of an incident involving objects being thrown into the technical area at today’s game.
‘This is totally unacceptable behaviour and not the standards of behaviour we expect at Anfield. This incident will be fully investigated using CCTV and those found guilty will be punished, including a lifetime ban from Anfield Stadium and a possible football banning order.’
After using VAR to detect Erling Haaland‘s foul on Fabinho in the second half, referee Anthony Taylor disallowed Phil Foden’s goal, infuriating Guardiola.
After then, Mohamed Salah scored Liverpool’s winning goal, snapping a three-game losing streak in the Premier League.
