Ahmed Ololade, better known by his stage name Asake, is a singer and songwriter from Nigeria who was born in the late 1990s.
Since Asake has a strong maternal bond with his mother and shares her first name, his stage name is a tribute to her.
Asake has been creating music ever since he was a student at the renowned Obafemi Awolowo University in Ile Ife, Osun state, where he studied theatre and performing arts.
Asake’s musical career advanced after he released “Mr. 2020 saw the release of “Mr. Money,” which was remixed by Zlatan and Peruzzi. Money” and “Lady” received some attention, but not enough to be considered mainstream.
Before being signed to YBNL in February 2022, Asake continued to release singles such as “Medusa” and “Yan Yan.”
After releasing his number-one single “Omo Ope” in January 2022 with Olamide, Asake gained notoriety and hasn’t missed since.
Asake’s breakthrough song “Omo Ope” was included in his debut extended play “Ololade Asake,” which was released in February 2022. Another popular song off the album was “Sungba,” which was published and then remixed by Burna Boy.
Asaké has contracts with Empire Distribution and YBNL NATION.
Although he is now widely known by the stage name “Asake,” he was previously known as MEDOO, and while still a student, he recorded a song titled “JOO HAA” under that name.
Aside from that, his recently released first album MMWTV includes the song JOHA on its tracklist.
In his pursuit of fame, Asake got involved with the well-known Nigerian comedian Broda Shaggi, who had him appear in some of his sketches. At the time, Asake was also Broda Shaggi’s backup vocalist.
Asake frequently employs production with an upbeat Afro and Amapiano feel. His compositions occasionally borrow from Fuji.
Another intriguing fact about Asake that you might not be aware of is that he was a dancer before making the transition to music and is a huge fan of Wizkid.
Additionally, a recent video that leaked online shows the singer complimenting Wizkid. “Medoo” was full of admiration for Wizkid in one of his messages on his previous Twitter account.
Asake claims that he had been texting Olamide since 2020 but hadn’t received a response until after the release of “Omo Ope.” At that point, Olamide called and demanded that they meet; when he arrived, Baddo simply asked him if he wanted to become a member of the family, and that is how he became a member of the YBNL family.
Asake has been making history in the music industry since the release of his debut album, “MMWTV.” The record has topped music charts worldwide since its release, and MMWTV is the first afrobeat debut album to debut on the UK official album chart.
Asake is the first afrobeat artist to perform three consecutive dates at the 5000-capacity Brixton Academy after selling out the venue three times as part of his UK tour.
Asake is already a well-known international artist.
