The singer revealed this during his interview with Ebro Darden on Apple Music 1.
In an interview with Ebro Darden on Apple Music 1, Nigerian singer and songwriter Adedamola Adefolahan, known professionally as Fireboy DML, discussed his relationship with fellow YBNL signee Asake and how their Bandana collaboration came about.
With “Bandana,” one of our favourite YBNL signees gave us a jam, and now Fireboy DML is telling us about working with Asake and their relationship.
According to Fireboy who described himself as a ”selfish songwriter,” he was stuck in a rut while making Bandana and had no idea what to do with the chorus.

Eventually, he confided in YBNL founder and veteran rapper Olamide, who reassured him that Asake was the right candidate. Fireboy sent the song to Asake after taking Olamide’s advice, and Asake recorded his verse even while riding the tour bus.
In addition, The Playboy hitmaker discussed his friendship with Asake, who is currently sweeping the music industry with hit after hit songs. Fireboy referred to Asake as a “Born superstar.”
Speaking on their shared experiences as a graduate of Obafemi Awolowo University, Fireboy said;
“He has that crazy personality, he’s a born superstar. We have that synergy from way back in school. We connect because of the struggles (which are similar) because we went to the same uni, that’s why our synergy was the same. It’s a song that tells our stories different ways.”
Fireboy’s Bandana with Asake is a lead single off his Playboy album and has become a fan favourite since its release.
