The year 2007 was a watershed moment in the Nigerian music industry. Artists from that time period, like Asa, Timaya, and 9ice, debuted to both critical and commercial acclaim.
A first-of-its-kind label compilation album was released in Nigeria by Mo’Hits, the country’s biggest label at the time.
P-square released what will become their best and game-changing album that year and songs like “Kini Big Deal”, “Yahooze”, “Greenland”, “Do Me”, and “Fire on the Mountain” ruled the airwaves.
In the 15 years since 2007, the industry has undergone significant development. Nigerian music has advanced rapidly to the point where it is currently categorised as mainstream music on a global level.

ASA – ASA
When it comes to the best debut albums from Nigerian Artists, Asa can never be missing from this list.
Asa(Asha) album is one of Nigeria’s most impactful albums to be released in the last decade.
She co-produced the platinum-selling self-titled album, with Cobhams Asuquo and the addition of Christophe Dupouy and Benjamin Constant.
Following the release of the album, Asa charted across Europe, Asia, and Africa, and she went on to win the prestigious French Constantin Award in 2008 when she was selected best fresh talent among ten singers or groups by a jury of 19 music-industry specialists in Paris.
The album gave fans beautiful hits like “Fire on the Mountain”, “Jailer”, Adaba”, “Bi’ Ban Ké”, among others.

Game Over- P-square
When Peter and Paul dropped their second studio album in 2005, fans were unaware that it was only the tip of the iceberg; a taste of what was to come.
By 2007, Do Me, which featured Waje’s beautiful soprano, was the single that ruled the radio.
Later, it was released as the lead single from their best-selling album so far, “Game Over.”
Game Over reportedly sold over 8 Million copies and featured songs that dominated the music charts all year long.
Songs from this commercial R&B/afro pop-oriented LP include No One Like You, Do Me, Ifunanya, Roll It, More Than A Friend, Am I Still That Special Man, Miss You Die, and Game Over.
True Story- Timaya
Under the management of Danco Music International, Timaya released his debut album, True Story, in 2007. This album contains eleven (11) tracks, all of which were produced by K Solo.
The album introduced us to an ambitious who was determined to make it out of his circumstances through music.
The project housed songs like Dem Mama, Timaya, True Story, Ogologomna, among others.
Curriculum Vitae- Mo’hits All Stars
Curriculum Vitae is a compilation album by recording artists from the defunct Nigerian record label Mo’ Hits Records.
Curriculum Vitae was recorded between 2005 and 2006. The album, which Don Jazzy totally produced, includes guest appearances by Mo’Hits All Stars (a group made up of D’banj, Wande Coal, Dr. SID, D’Prince, and Kayswitch).
The album was commercially and critically successful, and its songs continue to have cultural and pop relevance today.
Olori Oko- Infinity
Infinity was a popular Nigerian gospel group made up of Kehinde Akinbode, Joe Okougbo, David Thomas, Samson Nnogo and Sunny Steve.
Their breakthrough was the debut album ‘Olori Oko’, which was their third attempt to release a disc. The video for the song ‘Olori Oko’ topped numerous categories at the 2007 Nigerian Music Video Awards.

B.O.U.Q.U.I- B.O.U.Q.U.I
B.O.U.Q.U.I, born Bukola Folayan to HRH OBA (prof) Ololade Folayan 1st, a professor of Biochemistry and a professional teacher mother, she and her five siblings grew up in an intellectual environment at the Obafemi Awolowo University (Ile-Ife), which had a significant impact on her rich lyrical style and global perspective.
Her debut album, B.O.U.Q.U.I, comprises a record-breaking fourteen tracks and four skits, the most of any debutant in the Nigerian music industry. As a result, the album may be considered a two-in-one bundle.
The majority of the album’s songs, including “Not Ashamed,” “Get It Started,” “Major Problem,” “Molejo,” “Vanity,” and “Wanna Lone U” have become household anthems.
The album has received numerous honours and nominations, including the highly coveted AMEN Awards for best female act in 2007.
