Nigerian singer, songwriter and record producer Peter Okoye, who is better known as Mr. P has been sued for refusing to refund 70 percent of an advance payment after failing to perform at a show.

The West African Youth Support and Development Forum (WFYSDF) has filed a lawsuit against Peter Okoye, one-half of the P-Square brothers, for breach of contract and allegedly defrauding the group of N2.8 million.

According to Prosper Ibezim, a member of the WAYSDF’s board of directors, he stated that Mr P was paid a 70% upfront fee to perform at the West African Champions League on June 16, 2019, at the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba.

Ibezim claimed that the musician did not show up for the event and refused to take his calls or return his texts.

He said that Peter’s failure to attend the event cost them more than N33 million.

Ibezim further claimed that the artist sent a spy to observe the event and that Peter threatened his life after seeking to recover the upfront payment.

Counsel to the Plaintiffs, Mr Afamefuna Akonanya on Monday stated that the counsel to the defendant, Mr Somadina Okoli has filed a statement of defence and preliminary objection seeking the court to dismiss the matter for lack of jurisdiction.

Mr Akonanya, who revealed that his clients had asked for a date to appear with their own counter-motion, expressed confidence that his clients will receive the justice they deserve because the court is a justice institution.

Mr Okoli, the defendant’s attorney, stated that they arrived in court to submit a notice of preliminary objection disputing the court’s jurisdiction to hear the case and that the Plaintiffs have sued his client for breach of contract.

After taking all of the statements into consideration the court presiding Judge Justice I. J. Ndigwe adjourned the case to April 13.
