The year 2022 holds a lot of promise for several Nigerian artists who rose to prominence in 2021 due to their creative prowess and constancy.
Last year, Nigerian musicians really stepped it up a notch and showed the world what it meant to be the Giant of Africa.
Tems, a past honoree of this annual forecast, emerged like a phoenix with Wizkid, who made history by becoming the first African musician to sell out the 02 Arena in London three times [within minutes] in less than a month and enter the Billboard Top 10 charts with his global hit song “Essence.”
Burna Boy won a Grammy and is also scheduled to headline the prestigious Madison Square Garden in the first quarter of this year.

Ayra Starr
Oyinkansola Sarah Aderibige is the real name of Nigerian singer and songwriter, Ayra Starr.
Unbeknownst to some of her followers, she began her career as a model at the age of 16 before turning to music.
She released her debut original song in December 2019 after covering a number of popular artists’ songs and uploading them on her Instagram account.
This caught the eye of record executive Don Jazzy, and she was signed to Mavin Records as a result.
Since then, she’s topped the charts with her debut EP, ‘Ayra Starr,’ and then her album, ‘19 & Dangerous.’
So far, her hit song ‘Away‘, which was released on YouTube about 11 months ago, has over 5.6m views. Also, her song ‘Bloody Samaritan‘, which was released on YouTube about four months ago, has garnered over four million views.
Moreso, her stage name, Ayra, means honourable and respected.
Ruger
Ruger is the stage name of Michael Adebayo, a Nigerian singer and songwriter. He became well-known in 2021 due to his distinctive voice and unusual appearance, which included an eyepatch.
He is influenced by Fuji music by singers such as King Wasiu Ayinde (K1 De Ultimate) and R&B by American artists such as Boys II Men.
He put out musical stuff for enjoyment on social media, just like the others on this list, and arrived on D’Prince’s radar. He was revealed to the world after proper grooming and recording sessions, and he hit the ground running.
Victony
Anthony Victor, better known by his stage name Victony, is a singer and composer who has been through a lot in 2021 but has managed to shine through it all thanks to his talent.
Victony’s professional musical career began in 2017, and he was a rapper at the time. He made his debut with a SoundCloud mixtape named “The Outlaw King,” which is why some of his admirers still refer to him by that moniker.
His breakthrough year was 2021 when his album “Pray” began to gather traction since it was released following a tragic fatal accident that claimed the life of his friend and confined him to a wheelchair.
A perfect collaboration with Mayorkun on ‘Holy Father‘ is the kicker that cements him as one of 2021’s breakout stars.
Lojay
Lekan Osifeso Jnr., better known as Lojay, is a Nigerian musician, singer, songwriter, and performer. Lojay began his career as a professional musician in 2016. In October of 2019, he released “Ariel.”
He rose to prominence early in 2021 following a collaboration project with Sarz dubbed ‘LV N ATTN.’ Wizkid was the only feature of the project.
The project produced hits like “Tongolo”, “Monalisa”, “LV N ATTN” among others.
His mother is a minister, therefore he grew up listening to a lot of gospel music.
Lojay would go on to uncover more musical inspirations, both domestic and international, that would shape his sound and help him develop into the multi-talented musician he is today. He’s on a roll, and 2022 looks to be a big year for him.

Fave
GodsFavour Chidozie, also known as Fave, is a Nigerian singer and composer who is 21 years old. She used social media platforms, mainly Twitter, to promote herself and share videos of herself freestyling, which garnered her exposure and social media shares.
She began her career in the choir and has progressed to the point where she can perform hit tunes. She started gaining Mainstream publicity after featuring on Olamide’s 2021 album, UY Scuti.
Her song ‘Baby Riddim’ went viral on Tik Tok and quickly became an internet sensation. It then began to climb the charts, eventually becoming a certified smash.
Fave is demonstrating to them that she can easily make her way up, despite the fact that she still has some territory to travel.
