The Ghanaian act, Sarkodie, emerged as the top most-streamed Ghanaian artist on the Spotify platform ahead of Kwesi Arthur, Stonebwoy and others.

Ghanaian rapper, songwriter Michael Owusu Addo known professionally as Sarkodie claimed the top artist of the year with the most-streamed Ghanaian artist on Spotify just ahead of two other Ghanaians in the person of Kwesi Arthur, Stonebwoy and King Promise in the top 10.

Recall, Since the release of Spotify’s Wrapped statistics for Ghana in the first week of December, artists have gotten a lot of attention, claiming the top spot on wrapped.

Sarkodie is not only one of the most awarded artists in Ghana, but also on the African continent, having received 107 awards from 191 nominations – including 25 Ghana Music Awards – over the past decade.

No Pressure by Sarkodie does not appear on the list of hit songs. Only “Coachella” (with Kwesi Arthur) is among Ghana’s top ten songs this year on the Spotify platform.

Its position, at seventh, is four below the most-streamed single by a Ghanaian artist in 2021, in the shape of King Promise’ “Slowdown”.

This suggests that the album’s success lies in what it presents as a coherent whole, rather than as a series of tracks.

It’s just more indication that albums continue to play an important role on streaming platforms.

The fact that Sarkodie is one of Ghana’s most decorated singers simply goes to show how essential a great album can be, and how people will listen if you have something worth saying (or rapping, as the case may be).

Recall, recently Mp3bullet.ng reported that Gyakie has overtaken Tems as the most-streamed female musician in Ghana on Spotify with the remix of her monster hit song “Forever” featuring Omah Lay.
