On Monday night, Rihanna got a rare accolade from Barbados, her home country.
Barbados Prime Minister Mia Mottley honoured Rihanna, 33, as a National Hero during a ceremony commemorating the country’s independence from the United Kingdom.
The Fenty founder is now Barbados’ 11th National Hero and the second woman to receive the honour, and her new title is ‘The Right Honourable Robyn Rihanna Fenty.’
In a video of the ceremony shared by The Guardian, Rihanna walked up to Mottley to accept her new title, wearing an orange silk dress from Bottega Veneta, strappy heels and a black face mask. The event took place in Rihanna’s hometown, Bridgetown.
Prime Minister Mia Mottley announced that the 33-year-old would be conferred with the honor of National Hero of Barbados to cheers. Rihanna was brought up in front of the audience to be congratulated by Mottley.
May you continue to shine like a diamond and bring honor to your nation by your works, by your actions, Prime Minister Mottley told Rihanna, a reference to her 2012 chart-topping single Diamonds.

Prime Minister Mia Mottley not only met with the Prince of Wales during the day, but she also honoured Rihanna as Barbados’ National Hero during a ceremony.
The Fenty Beauty mogul was in attendance, as well as in Barbados to witness Governor-General Dame Sandra Mason’s inauguration as the country’s new president.
Barbados will undergo new changes in the coming years now that the Queen is no longer the country’s head of state.
2021 has been a year of accomplishments for the singer — prior to being named a National Hero, Rihanna officially became a billionaire in August, making her one of the most successful entertainers working globally today.
Forbes reported at the time that Rihanna’s net worth was estimated to be around $1.7 billion, putting her just behind Oprah Winfrey.
This year, Rihanna confirmed her new relationship with boyfriend A$AP Rocky by going public with it. The singer promised fans in March that she will release new music “soon,” despite her busy schedule with her fashion business, a beauty company, and love life.
Her most recent album, Anti, was released in 2016. Rihanna thanked her fans in January to commemorate the album’s five-year anniversary.
