2021 has been a major year for some Nigerian artists who have seen their songs get certifications in other countries.
Nigerian artists are representing Africa so well in the music scene, dominating charts outside the shores of the country and earning certifications.
These songs on this list include both a mix of recent and old songs as far back as 2016. For inclusion on the list, the song must have sold at least minimum copies around music credible markets.

Here are the Nigerian Songs that have received certifications in 2021 so far
Essence
Wizkid’s global smash hit, “Essence” has been his biggest golden goose this 2021. Although released in 2020 as part of his Made in Lagos album, it rose to international popularity in 2021.
The song even earned a remix from popular US-based Canadian singer, Justin Beiber and even became the first Nigerians ng to chart on the Billboard Hot 100.
In the month of September, it was certified Gold in the USA and became Wizkid’s second song to achieve this in the US. Later the song was awarded a Platinum status with Big Wiz and Tems being presented a plaque after one of Wizkid’s shows.
Love Nwantiti
Originally released in 2019 off Ckay’s debut EP, “Ckay the First”, “Love Nwantiti” became a global Tik-Tok anthem after its challenge and remix featuring DJ Yo and Axel went viral on the app.
From there it was nothing but achievements; it became the second Nigerian song to chart on the Billboard Hot 100 after Wizkid’s “Essence“.
It earned its first certification in France after it was certified gold, then later Platinum, making it the first Nigerian song to achieve the accolade.
It also recently earned a silver certification in the UK after selling out 200,000 units.
Dumebi
This Rema’s breakthrough single might have been released in 2019 but it recently earned its first certification after it was certified Gold in France for having more than a whopping 15 Million streams.
This single was released in 2019 under his imprint Mavin Records & Jonzing World as the lead track off his self-titled EP.
Since then, it has been doing wonders on streaming platforms, and still remains one of Rema’s biggest hits.
Do Like That
Thanks to this 2016 smash hit, Korede Bello earned his International gold certification. Following Burna Boy, Davido, and Wizkid, the MAVIN Records release became the sixth Nigerian record to be certified Gold this decade.
It was certified Gold in the United States on Wednesday, September 23, 2021. On YouTube, the song currently has 120 million views.
Korede Bello released the song in 2016 to critical reception. Following the success of the song, he released a remix of the song featuring American Singer, Kelly Rowland in 2017.
Maradona
Niniola had the Industry in a chokehold with this hit in 2017. The song earned several remixes by International DJs and even earned her a spot on Beyonce’s iconic “The Gift: Lion King Soundtrack” album.
In the month of August, the song was certified gold in South Africa. The song is also fast headed for Platinum certification.
Come Closer
In 2021, Wizkid added another certification to his list of accomplishments as his 2017 hit, “Come Closer” was certified Gold in the UK.
According to reports, “Come Closer” was certified gold in the UK for sales of over 400,000 units
This is Wizkid’s second gold certification as a lead artist as the song has been certified Gold in the US and platinum in Canada.
The song was initially certified Silver in the UK.
Ye
Winning a Grammy wasn’t going to be the only achievement Burna Boy would enjoy in 2021 as his hit song, ‘Ye’ joined the league of Nigerian songs to be certified ‘Gold’ by the RIAA
The song also has Gold certifications in the Uk, France and Canada.

If
Even years later, Davido keeps winning with “If“, one of his biggest hits to date as it was certified Gold in the US this year.
“If” went Diamond and “Fall” went Platinum in South Africa in 2020.
This would be the second Gold certification the singer would be getting in the US as his 2017 song “Fall” went Gold in 2020. “Fall” is also certified Gold in Canada.
