Damini Ogulu, also known as Burna Boy, has stated that the legalisation of marijuana use in Nigeria is based on hypocrisy.
Burna Boy explains why marijuana is still illegal in Nigeria, claiming that it is due to hypocrisy.
He was asked about the pot legalisation issue in Nigeria in an interview with Home Grown Radio in Los Angeles before his Hollywood Bowl performance, after claiming that LA had the best weed in the world.
According to the artist, hypocrisy is the order of the day in Nigeria because everyone smokes but doesn’t want to be seen doing so. An attitude that has led to the prohibition of marijuana in Nigeria.
He said:
It’s not a zero tolerance. It’s like everybody does it, but no one wants to be the one that is seen with it. It’s just kind of hypocritical out there. Everybody smokes weed
The African Giant also remarked that the older generation’s misconceptions about the plant are another reason why it has not been authorised.
“It’s like some dumb shit, bro. You know those old shit when they talk about it frying your brains. They try to make it seem like if you smoke it, you will go mad….”

When asked if people in Nigeria get detained if they are caught with marijuana, Burna Boy just answered that the person in question can have their way depending on how they handle the matter.
He said:
“If you can please the person that is stopping you at a time”
The 30-year-old star also spoke about subjects such as police brutality in Nigeria, the #ENDSARS movement, and other things.
