Nigeria Superstar, Davido has added another noteworthy feat to his already impressive resume as he made history by becoming the first African afrobeat artist to be a golden spike hitter.
Davido is the latest celebrity to do the pre-match ritual of MLS club Atlanta United, making him the first African artist to do so.
He was invited to “hit the golden spike,” a pre-game ritual performed by MLS team Atlanta United at Mercedez Benz Stadium.
The singer hit the golden spike prior to the club’s game against the Columbus Crew, which they lost 1-0.
Atlanta United posted a video of Davido performing their pre-game ritual on their Twitter page, along with the caption
“Atlanta born. Nigeria Made ???????? Afrobeats artist @Davido is your Golden Spike Hitter????”

It seems only fitting that Davido performs the pre-game ritual for Atlanta United, the city where he has spent the majority of his life. The singer, who is also an American citizen, grew up and attended school in Atlanta before returning to Nigeria to pursue his dreams.
The DMW boss owns a home in Atlanta and visits it frequently when he is in the United States. Last month, the afrobeats artist traveled to Atlanta alongside Konshens, a Jamaican musician, to film a video for their new single, Boom Bang.
He recently returned to his Atlanta home for a brief while following the death of his buddy and associate, Obama DMW, who had been a close friend and associate of the musician for many years until his passing last month.
