CDQ’s impact on the sustenance and normalization of street pop in the Nigerian music industry cannot be overlooked.

There is no possible way anyone can talk about the forerunners of the street pop sub-genre or culture pacemaker of the Nigerian indigenous hip-hop rappers without CDQ.

Sodiq Abubakar Yusuf popularly known as CDQ launched into the music scene in 2008, prior to being a backup singer for Da Grin before he started rapping.

However, CDQ gained proper recognition and prominence after dropping a Masterkraft produced smash anthem titled ‘Indomie’ in 2014 and slightly jumping on the remix with Olamide and Davido.

In addition, the ‘Indomie’ remix featuring Olamide and Davido would safely be added to one of the most viral Nigerian street hop songs archives of all time.

The smash single earned him several nominations in the best street-hop artist category, running a clean sheet era with back-to-back hits.

Undisputably enjoining the likes of Olamide, Lord Ajasa, ID Cabasa, and the late Da Grin on the verge of street pop in the Nigerian music industry.

CDQ has collaborated with Davido, Wizkid, Kizz Daniel, Flavour, Olamide, and a host of other big names.

Also, on the verge of making a clearer statement and diverging into a viable household name in the industry, CDQ has scored a series of club bangers with all the top dawgs in the Nigerian music industry.

Analyzing his debut album titled Quality, which was released on 22 August 2016 via Masterkraft’s owned General Records, fortifying the album with six (6) singles which also include Wizkid‘s assisted track ‘Nowo E Soke’ that also turned into an anthem across the nation and Africa at large.

Another scintillating moment in 2017, when he dipped on the track ‘Say Baba’ with the remix enlisting South Africa superstar record producer and singer DJ Maphorisa, therefore, becoming arguably a common knowledge that CDQ defined a viable era in the Nigerian street pop and the Nigerian music industry as a whole.

CDQ contributing a whole lot to the acceptance and inclusions of the sub-genre at the early stage on the global level, and paving way for the younger generation of the sub-genre.
