Nigerian singer, Barry Jhay has expressed regret for not being able to meet his late Grandpa, the legendary IK Dairo.
Barry Jhay is currently facing trouble due to the death of his record label boss, Babatunde Oyerinde Abiodun, also known as Kashy Godson.
It was reported that the singer was arrested by the Ghanaian police in connection with the death of his boss.
Unknown to some people, the singer comes from a succession of Nigerian music royalty. Weeks ago, he took to his Instagram account to reveal that his grandfather was Isaiah Kehinde Dairo, popularly known as IK Dairo.
The late singer, IK Dairo was a notable Nigerian Jùjú musician who was a Member of the Order of the British Empire. An MBE is the third highest-ranking Order of the British Empire award.
Celebrating his grandfather on Instagram, Barry Jhay posted a picture of his grandfather and wrote,
“Allow me share with you a little bit more about my background. In this picture, I have my grandpa, late IK Dairo. Swipe left read little about him or just Google the name. But mom I never knew grandpa was a big boy o.
“I just know two rich kids brought me to life. It is painful I never met you. Mama and uncle always told me a lot about you. I tasted the culture spirituality, senses of good music and legacies you laid. I’m proud to be the son of your first daughter. I ride for you and dad till my last breathe. I love you so much grandpa. In my heart is where you stay.”

More so, the singer’s father is Sikiru Ayinde Barrister. He coined his stage name, Barry Jhay, from his father’s name. Barry Jhay simply stands for Barrister Junior.
Ayinde Barrister was a Yoruba singer/songwriter and music performer. He is regarded as the pioneer of Fuji music. After his first break into music in 1965, Ayinde Barrister went on to release over 70 studio albums.
Barrister who was a national award recipient died on December 16, 2010.
Celebrating his father posthumous birthday via his Instagram account the singer wrote, “Dad, I think about you every day. I miss you more than you can ever imagine. Today you would have been 73… your legend lives on and I promise to always make you proud. Lion no Dey born dog.”
A decade after his father’s death, Barry Jhay, eulogized the late fuji singer. “10 years without you has been hell papi, but you never left for a second. I went through fire for some reasons that I benefit from now I don’t really wanna say too much, because if I start I fit write a whole book for you. Thank you for being my strength, my spiritual friend, the man in me, my MINIGOD.
“I’m proud to call you Dad! Rest on KING OF MY HEART. Daddy I say rest o I no say sleep. I wish you were here to see what a big baby I have become, life would have been more fair I learnt too much, I would still be touching your head and your belly as I use to while you were here, I’m pained but I’m strong for you I’m in this for you and my child for life. KING ON BEST MAN,”(sic)
