    These songs rocked the Naija music scene at some point and were a huge factor to the popularity of the artists that released them.
    Some were party jams while some were just for pure chilling and vibes. Unlike today, where you hear the same song with different people’s voices on it. These throwback songs were different right from beat to production.

    The success story of the Nigerian rap industry can not be complete without mentioning Naeto C. The rapper at some point had some of the biggest songs of the mid-2000s.

    “Kini Big Deal” is one of the records which made Naeto C prominent in the music industry. It was released back in 2008, housed under his first studio album, “You Know My P“, a 16-track project released in the same year.

    In the early 2000’s Don Jazzy and D’banj came together to form one of Nigeria’s best Label, Mo’hits records. The label boasted of acts like Wande Coal, D’Prince, Dr Sid, K-Switch.

    In 2007, the Label dropped their joint collaborative project titled ‘Curriculum Vitae‘ and one of the tracks off the album is ‘Pere’ which features Don Jazzy, D’Banj, and Wande Coal.

    ‘Joor’, a song recorded by Nigerian artist Jahbless, taken from his 2010 studio album, ‘Overground’.

    The song featured Ice Prince, Reminisce, Durella, Ruggedman & eLDee. It’s one of Nigeria’s best classic rap songs to date and was produced by Sarz.

    ‘Lagos Party‘ is a hit single from Banky W‘s album ‘The W Experience’. The song was released in 2009 and produced by the music maestro Cobhams Asuquo.

    Bracket feat Wizkid – Girl

    Bracket is a Nigerian Afropop and R&B music duo composed of Obumneme Ali a.k.a. Smash and Nwachukwu Ozioko a.k.a. Vast. Bracket started as a three-man music group before a member called Bistop dropped out.

    ‘Girl’ is a number off their 2011 released album titled Cupid Stories released under the Ape Planet Imprint.

    The song which features Wizkid was a smash hit topping charts at the time of its release.

    Brymo – Ara

    Ara by Brymo is one of the few records that topped the Nigerian charts in 2011. Ara was one of the lead singles off Brymo’s 2012 released The Son Of a Kapenta which was his second album but the first under the Chocolate City Imprint.

    10 years later, the song still sounds so good.

    In April 2009, following the release of Wande Coal‘s debut album Mushin to Mo’Hits, Don Jazzy began work on Dr SID’s album.

    Don Jazzy decided to create a new sound for Dr SID who was known as predominantly a Rap artiste and decided to have more singing on the album, as well as giving the album Pop feel.

    This led to the release of SID’s first debut album, ‘Turning Point‘ and off the album was ‘Pop Something’ which was an instant hit. Till now, kids who grew up listening to the song can sing the lyrics word for word.

    D’banj – Fall in Love

    D’banj- Fall In Love

    D’banj is one of Nigeria’s iconic music stars thanks to his evergreen classics. The singer dominated the music scene for almost a decade.

    In 2008, he released his third studio album, ‘Entertainer‘ which was successful commercially and birthed hits one of which is the romantic ballad, ‘Fall in Love‘.

    The music video featured legendary Nigerian Actress, Genevieve Nnaji which sparked dating rumors between the two.
