A Song Title is more than a name as it is a song’s identity. It could either be a single word or a phrase, whichever it is, how an artist names a song plays a major role.
While some song titles are unique, there are some which are commonly used by Nigerian Artists no matter the message of the song.

Energy
Artists; Skepta ft Wizkid, Runtown, 9ice, Fireboy DML
While Science would tell you Energy is the ability to do work, Artists would tell you otherwise. For Skepta, Energy is a vibe a person showcases toward him and if it’s negative, he wants you to stay far away. While Fireboy DML on the other hand seems to feel the energy of his love interest and wants her around.
Runtown believes his ‘energy’ can’t be stolen away as he has conquered his worst days and is living the best life. 9ice is the only one sticking to the scientific definition but he thinks it would come by drinking an energy drink.
Best songs among them; all of them. But based on streams, Skepta takes the crown.
Aye
Artists: Davido, Naira Marley
Most Yoruba words can mean different things depending on the tone marks used and this is the case for ‘Aye’ which can mean Life or World depending on the context used.
Davido’s 2014 song of the same name is a love song dedicated to his Love Interest who is more interested in him than how deep his pockets are. Naira Marley in his 2020 song dwells on the thought that life isn’t hard, it’s just the people living it that makes it difficult.
Ginger Me
Artists: Bella Shmurda, Rema
Botanically, Ginger is a plant whose roots are used as a food seasoning. However, it’s slang on the streets of Nigeria which means to ‘motivate someone’.
Bella Shmurda on his 2020 song stays true to the Nigerian Meaning. He asks on people to motivate him so he can stay focused. While Rema in his own song tells his Love Interest she is his motivation. I guess, we all have our source of inspiration.
Mama
Artists: Mayorkun ft Davido , Kizz Daniel
Mama is the informal term for Mother. most Nigerian Kids are used to calling their Mothers this term. But it also a form of endearment used by men to refer to attractive women.
Mayorkun in his 2018 song praises his Love Interest’s mother for giving birth to her. While Kizz Daniel uses it as a form of endearment to his girl.
Nobody
Artists: DJ Neptune ft Mr Eazi and Joeboy, M.I Abaga ft 2Baba, Wizkid, Dremo
Nobody is the antonym of Somebody and also the absence of someone. But Nigerian Artists get creative with this abstract term.
M.I Abaga in his 2010 song featuring 2Baba explains that if nobody talks about you, then you are nobody. Fellow rapper, Dremo in his 2018 song agrees with M.I’s belief.
While Wizkid in 2017 song sings of his Love Interest who he reveals wants to take things slow. While DJ Neptune features Mr Eazi and Joeboy on his 2020 song of the same name.

Artists: Reminisce ft Olamide and Naira Marley
Fabian Blu ft Naira Marley and Mohbad.
Instagram is a popular social networking app owned by Tech Billionaire, Mark Zuckerberg. It has become one of the most apps used by people to upload pictures and interact, however it is also known as the home of fake lifestyle and standards.
Reminisce in his 2019 song featuring Olamide, Naira Marley and Sarz addresses the fake lifestyle that has become a norm on the app and the vices it promotes.
While Marlian Act, Fabian Blu on his 2020 song also featuring Naira Marley and Mohbad talk about feeling constantly watched and judged by people on social media.
Bad Influence
Artists: Naira Marley, Omah Lay
Bad Influence is a term used to refer to Something or someone that teaches others to do wrong or encourages wrong actions and thoughts.
In his 2019 song, Naira Marley talks about being referred to as a nuisance or menace to society because he acts differently from others. While Omah Lay on his 2020 song blames his Love Interest for being a bad influence on him.
Nwa Baby
Artists: Davido, Solid Star ft 2Baba, Flavour
Nwa Baby is an Igbo form of endearment. Flavour uses the term in his 2005 erotic song of the same name. In Davido’s 2018 song of the same name, he sings about his Love Interest who he is obsessed with.
This is also the case for Solid Star who featured 2Baba on his 2016 song of the same name.
Bobo
Artists: Olamide, Mayorkun ft Davido
Bobo is a slang used to refer to a Nigerian Man. Olamide gave it a creative definition in his 2015 hit that birthed a dance routine. Mayorkun, however, in his 2017 song featuring Davido reveals that money is actually the bobo as it would attract Ladies even if you aren’t fine.

Woman
Artists: Tekno, Rudeboy, Rema, Brymo
It’s common for artists to sing about women which aren’t surprising as ‘Woman’ is a command song title choice.
Tekno in his 2019 song sings about the strength of women and how their power shouldn’t be limited to the Kitchen. Rudeboy, on the other hand, sings about the craze of the perfect partner which isn’t impossible getting in anybody.
Rema sings about his love for women of all shape and size, Brymo, however, limit his choice one woman who he says he plans on making his wife.
Interestingly, Rema, Rudeboy and Brymo all released their songs in 2020.
Do Me
Artists: P-square, Patoranking
‘Do Me’ is a phrase which could mean anything depending on the context being used. It is also an erotic term which is the context defunct music group, P-square uses in their 2007 hit song. Patoranking also follows suit in this direction in his 2020 song of the same name.
Pull Up
Artists: Timaya ft Burna Boy, Burna Boy
Pull Up can either mean a form of exercise or a slang. Timaya uses the slang in his 2019 song featuring Burna Boy. Interestingly, Burna Boy also released a song of the same name in 2019 too.

Duro
Artists: Tekno, Kizz Daniel
Duro in Yoruba means “Wait” or “Stand”. Tekno goes for the former in his 2015 song where he professes his love to his girl. Kizz Daniel also follows the same format in his 2016 song where he begs his girl to wait for him.
Yeba
Artists: Kizz Daniel, Yemi Alade
Yeba is a slang/exclamation used whenever an unbelievable situation happens. Kizz Daniel gets people dancing to his 2017 song of the same name. While Yemi Alade on her 2019 song sings of a Yoruba Demon who promises Marriage in return for s*x.

Temptation
Artists: P-square, Adekunle Gold
Human beings face temptation every day of their life and for P-square, it was a woman. In their 2005 song of the same name, they are torn between their Wives and an attractive woman.
Adekunle Gold samples this song in his 2016 version of the title. He narrates the story of how his Soldier friend’s wife is hell-bent on seducing him.
