Two reigning African Superstars, Davido and Wizkid have been the talk of the town since both of them released their respective tracks.
Davido had been on a social media hiatus for three months before coming back to the scene with ‘Fem‘ while Wizkid was being his usual self, an unstable presence on social media before dropping ‘No Stress‘.
The songs are not the only thing that fans were talking about, it was also revealed that they would also be releasing their albums the same month which is already setting social media on fire.
Davido who is yet to give a concrete date for his album release is expected to drop the album between the end of September and the beginning of October. While Wizkid would drop his on the 15th of October.
Unless anything comes up, the month of October would see fans of both artists fight themselves over whose album is better.
‘Fem‘ for Davido was more than just a comeback song, it was the taster to test the waters. The song would give a glimpse of what the album entailed.
Anytime an artist is set to drop an album, they release one song for the album which could be the Lead single for the album.
How it does on the market in a way determines how the album is perceived. However, it’s uncertain if ‘Fem‘ is the lead single for ‘A Better Time‘.
‘Fem‘ was a hit not mainly because of quality but because of good strategy and marketing.
First, Davido being off social media gave him an edge, then he coming out with a song that was would drop subtle hints on him being in a fight with someone gave it more relevance.
He capitalized on both fans and trolls’ curiosity and won big time as the song hit one million views within 7 hours.
His supposed beef with Burna Boy was the extra spice. If there’s anything Davido and his team are getting better at, its strategy and marketing.

Davido is a brand with his fair share of trolls, most of them being Wizkid’s fans. He knows all he needs to do is drop a bloody bait and they would come swooping in like a pack of hungry wolves.
‘Fem‘ had more than 5 million views in just a week which makes one wonder how if the forthcoming album would break its predecessor’s achievement of one billion streams in one year.
Wizkid released the first single, ‘Smile’ off his highly anticipated album, “Made in Lagos” featuring Grammy Award-winning singer, H.E.R.
While Wizkid’s fans praised him as usual, the reaction was somewhat lukewarm as music lovers were still trying to come to terms with Wizkid’s new direction.
‘Smile‘ was a fusion of reggae, R’n’B and, a little of Afrobeat. We heard a different Wizkid on the song which isn’t a bad thing but needs time getting used to.
Then he went on to release ‘No Stress‘ on the 17th of September, a song that had almost the same sound template as ‘Smile’ – and old Wizkid was nowhere to be found.
Of course, this song also had its own critics who slammed Wizkid for westernizing his sound.
From what ‘Smile‘ and ‘No Stress‘ presents, ‘Made In Lagos‘ would have fans listening to an evolved Wizkid with a sound made to please the international market.
This writer isn’t surprised as the signs were already there starting from his last album, ‘Sounds from the other side‘.
SFTOS was basically a Caribbean influenced record encompassing house, EDM, house, and Afrobeat. It is one of Wizkid’s heavily criticized record mainly by Nigerian Music lovers.
‘Made In Lagos‘ could be touring the same path as SFTOS from what has been given. Take note that this album is highly anticipated since Wizkid revealed it in 2017.
‘Fem’ and ‘No Stress’ can’t be compared as they take two different directions. October sure would be an interesting month if both albums drop.
