Music Award Shows are very important to the Nigerian Music Industry as it in contributes to promoting the music industry, healthy competition among artists.
The Music Awards shows are not without its drama and its flaws but music enthusiasts claim that the role these events have to play is outstanding, arguing that without them, the music industry could go down the drain.
Awards add value to the industry itself, plus, they give a different kind of motivation to the artistes in the industry. No Artists won’t love knowing the fact that the laborious effort put into making a song wasn’t in vain.
Internationally, the Grammys lead the race as the biggest Award show. While others like the BET, MOBO Awards, The BRIT Awards, Billboard Music Awards amongst others follow suits.
So here are the Biggest Music Award shows in Nigeria.
All African Music Award
This is not a Nigerian only show but an Award show that caters to the African Music Industry.
All Africa Music Awards (also referred to as AFRIMA) is an annual awards event that was established by the International Committee AFRIMA, in collaboration with the African Union (AU) to reward and celebrate musical works, talents, and creativity around the African continent while promoting the African cultural heritage. Its pioneer Awards show was held in 2014.
Nigeria has hosted three of the award editions from 2014–2016. Nigeria once again won the fourth-year hosting rights tenure in 2017.
Artiste like Don Jazzy, Davido, 2Baba, D’banj, P-Square, Olamide, Brymo, Adekunle Gold, Kizz Daniel amongst others has been recipients of the Award.

Nigeria Entertainment Awards
The Nigeria Entertainment Awards (NEA Awards) were established in New York City in January 2006. The awards recognize the contributions of African entertainers with a special focus on Nigerians.
The Award show is not only focused on Music but every aspect of entertainment like Movies, Comedy, and Disc Jockey.
Nigerians Artists like 2Baba, Asa, D’banj, P-Square, Lagbaja, Sammy Okposo, Femi Kuti, 9ice, Ty Bello, M.I Abaga, Olamide, Davido, Sinach amongst others.
Soundcity MVP Awards
The Soundcity MVP Awards Festival (“TheMVPs” or “MVP“) is an event presented by Soundcity TV which awards plaques to musicians and performers across Africa. Since 2007, the winners are chosen by the viewers and fans by visiting the award website and a select committee of the industry stakeholder.
The first MVPs ceremony was held in December 2016 in Lagos, Nigeria. Recipients include Davido, Burna Boy, Naira Marley, Rema, Fireboy, Joeboy, Wizkid amongst others.
Headies Award
The Headies (formerly known as the Hip Hop World Awards) is an award show established in 2006 by the Hip Hop World Magazine of Nigeria to recognize outstanding achievement in the Nigerian music industry.
The annual ceremony features performances by established and promising artists. It is broadcast live on HipTV to television viewers across Nigeria. The 2006 and 2007 editions of The Headies were held at the Muson Center in Onikan, Lagos State. From 2010 through 2012, The Headies were held at the Eko Hotel and Suites in Victoria Island, Lagos.
Several media personalities in Nigeria have hosted the annual ceremony, including Darey Art Alade, D’banj, Dakore Egbuson, Banky W., Rita Dominic, M.I, Tiwa Savage and Dr SID.
It is considered the biggest music award show in Nigeria with its next Rated Award Category contended for by the nominees.
