    Despite the fact that an artist starts out with music as his career and passion, at some point in his life, he could decide to venture into other fields of work.

    While artists might go into movies and other entertainment-related businesses or establish a business, some Nigerian artists decide to try their hand in politics.

    Though at first, fans are not really in support of their change in interest, later they come around. However, Nigerian artists especially new school artists aren’t giving politics a consideration as Music is still fresh to them, older artists on the other hand decide to try their luck in the field.

    Veteran Musician/Actor, Tony One Week took the decision to engage in active politics in 2006. This was the year after his unsuccessful attempt to be elected as the President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN).

    He joined the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in 2006 but dumped the party in 2009 after he failed to secure the party’s nomination.

    He later joined the ACN, secured a ticket, campaigned vigorously, and was in 2011 elected a member of the House of Assembly and was later chosen as the Minority Leader of the Anambra State House of Assembly.

    On 11 November 2018, Banky W declared his intention to run for the Lagos’ Eti-Osa Federal Constituency seat in Nigeria’s House of Representatives, representing on the platform of Modern Democratic Party, formed in 2017.

    On 23 February 2019, he lost the Eti-Osa Federal Constituency Elections to Babajide Obanikoro of the All Progressive Congress.

    “Gongo Aso” hitmaker, 9ice in 2014 announced plans to run for political office in 2015 specifically as a House of Representatives member representing the Ogbomoso North Constituency in the National Assembly.

    He contested for the seat under the umbrella of APC but lost at the party primaries. In April 2015, the singer was appointed a special adviser to the then Governor of Oyo State, Abiola Ajimobi.

    Naetochukwu Chikwe popularly known by his stage moniker, Naeto C, made his way into the Nigerian music industry with his debut single, You Know My P, a track of his debut album with the same title.

    He had hits such as You Know My P, Kini Big Deal, Ten-over-Ten among others. He was appointed as Special Assistant on Lagos Liaison by former governor of Imo State, Emeka Ihedioha upon assumption of office in May 2019.

    In 2014, Tony Tetuilaran ran for political office in the House of Assembly of Kwara State as a candidate for the All Progressives Congress party. He later claimed that he was denied the Political position
