Most Recognized Artiste in Africa
Wizkid Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun has over the years become one of Nigeria’s and Africa’s most talked about artistes.
He has grown so big that he has been able to cross milestones that many artistes haven’t.
One topic that would, however, continue to be debated is if he is Africa’s most recognized.
Bagging numerous awards and nominations from within and outside the country, Star Boy has become almost unbeatable.
Battling for this title with the likes of 2Baba, the 28-year-old singer may never be seen as the best.
Others contending for this title are Davido, Tiwa Savage and Dbanj. Dbanj is also one artiste that gained recognition abroad, especially with his ‘Oliver Twist‘.
Wizkid came into the music scene with ‘Holla at Your Boy‘, assisted by R&B king, Banky W.
Lovers of Nigerian music swayed to the music, admired by the young boy with the innocent look and dope voice.
Holla at Your Boy fetched him the award for Headies Next Rated and opened him to opportunities.
Signed by Empire Mates Entertainment(E.M.E), Wizkid released ‘Tease Me’ and ‘Don’t Dull‘. This guy is a born talent. We can even say that every one of his singles was a hit!
A quick fast forward to 2014 when the Star Boy releases his ‘Ayo’ album. Another hit!
Or should we talk about endorsements, like Pepsi’s? Wizkid fame has been spreading like wildfire.
Wizkid with his featured on Drake‘s ‘One Dance’ became Nigeria’s first artist to emerge on Billboard’s Twitter Last 24 hours chart.
We can go on and on about Wizkid’s success. Don’t forget that he is the first African artiste to sell out the 20,000 capacity London O2 Arena in 2018. After him, our homeboy Davido came along.
The Star Boy Entertainment boss is one of the most decorated in Africa. He has bagged awards ranging from BET’s Awards to Headies Awards to MTV Europe Awards.
Talking about nominations, he has been nominated for the Grammy Awards.
Wizkid has also featured in many songs. Like…C’mon, who wouldn’t like Wizkid to be featured in their song?
Another fast forward to when he released ‘Fever’ and everywhere was stew. Mehn…our boy survived still supported by his Wizkid Fan Club.
Though Starboy being the most recognized artiste in Africa may continue to be debated (especially when Davido’s fans are ready to swallow up whoever bad mouths him and the streets will kill for Olamide), he is music goals.
There is no doubt that StarBoy is great and talented. If you wish to argue, then argue with his achievements!
