Ayra Starr is Spotify’s global artist for May 2024
Nigerian Afrobeats sensation Ayra Starr is taking center stage as Spotify’s featured artist for the EQUAL Africa and EQUAL Global programs in May 2024.
Known for chart-toppers like ‘Rush’, ‘Sability’, and ‘Rhythm & Blues‘, Ayra Starr joins Tiwa Savage as the only other African artist to be recognized as both the Spotify EQUAL Africa and global artist.
In 2023, Spotify hosted 15 EQUAL activations, resulting in over 14.8 million artist discoveries from EQUAL playlists. Additionally, EQUAL artists received 11,800 editorial playlist ads, showcasing the program’s extensive impact and reach.
With her February release ‘Commas‘ already amassing over 35 million streams on Spotify, Ayra Starr spoke about her expressive musical style that has carved a niche in the industry. She also expressed her gratitude for being selected as Spotify’s EQUAL artist, underscoring the significance of the recognition.
“I am grateful to become a Spotify EQUAL Ambassador. It means so much to me to be able to represent women in Afrobeats and African women in general. There are so many women in music right now and the EQUAL program is doing a great job in highlighting their hard work.”
