Tems says her debut album, ‘Born In The Wild’, is about her experiences
In a recent interview with Apple Music, Tems offered insights into her highly anticipated debut album, “Born in the Wild,” describing it as a reflection of her personal journey and experiences.
Following the release of her latest single, “Love Me Jeje,” on April 26, 2024, Tems shared that her upcoming album will serve as a documentation of the pivotal moments and lessons that have shaped her identity and artistry.
With “Born in the Wild,” Tems aims to provide fans with an intimate glimpse into her life, offering a collection of songs that encapsulate her growth and evolution as an artist. From the highs to the lows, the album promises to be a raw and authentic portrayal of Tems’s journey thus far.
As anticipation builds for the release of “Born In The Wild,” fans can expect a deeply personal and introspective body of work that showcases Tems’s unique voice and storytelling ability.
” ‘Born in the Wild’ is actually about my journey. It’s about my experience as me, and about the experiences I’ve had so far. And it really felt like the life I lived before, the life I was accustomed to felt like a wilderness,” she tells Apple Music.
“I was raised in Lagos and that’s a part of me, but it’s not really about the place, it’s more about the state of being. It was a wilderness in the environment I lived in and there were so many things that happened and so many lessons I learned to come and be this person now. It is basically coming out of the wilderness. So that’s basically what Born In the Wild is about,” she adds on the elements that shape her debut album.
Tems went on to say that making an album about herself needed a process of healing, self-discovery, and unlearning.
“I’ve had to step back a bit to make sure or to check in with myself that I’m being true and also just find healing from all the trauma. Everything I experienced before Tems, I think I had to unlearn a lot of things. And this is just a new way of expressing myself while still centering who I am in it.”
In anticipation of her debut album, Tems has treated fans to a trio of captivating singles, with the latest addition being “Love Me Jeje,” which features a sample from Seyi Sodimu’s timeless 1997 hit of the same title.
