Ruger reveals the key details behind his decision to leave Jonzing World.
Nigerian artist Ruger recently took to his social media platform to shed light on his departure from his former record label, Jonzing World, following the announcement of his joint EP with BNXN.
In his announcement on Thursday, April 11, 2024, Ruger disclosed that the label, led by D’Prince, brother of Mavin Records’ Don Jazzy, had not adequately supported his solo career. He cited a lack of promotion and limited opportunities for artistic growth as key factors influencing his decision to part ways with Jonzing World.
He posted on the social media platform X, “As much as I’m very appreciative of the fact that Jonzing world introduced me to the world, I just couldn’t continue with them because they got too comfortable with the money they were making from me and couldn’t push me further as I wanted to be pushed. Was supposed to renegotiate the contract but I couldn’t imagine 5 years more without action.”

Ruger expressed gratitude for the support Jonzing World provided during the early stages of his career.
However, he clarified that his ambition to become a bigger artist was not aligned with the label’s efforts. Despite voicing his concerns about the promotion strategies, little changed over time, leading him to feel discontent with the situation.
He posted, “I complained, I got angry, some people tell me say no be so dem Dey do things. I still go back HQ go collect fake hugs and handshakes. Nothing still change. I wan mad.”
Ruger further criticized the label for reallocating funds generated from his work to support other emerging artists they had signed. He hinted at undisclosed issues regarding his safety but chose not to elaborate for the time being.
Despite the challenges, Ruger expressed pride in his journey and excitement for the future, mentioning confirmed tour dates as a testament to his ongoing progress and determination.
He also posted, “Anyways, I’m proud of myself. Performing at very big festivals this year, touring Europe again, touring Canada again, IDC I’m gonna be cocky. coz this is shit they couldn’t do for me. BS!!!”
