Asake stuns in GQ Magazine’s Creativity Award photoshoot
Nigerian award-winning artist Asake took center stage during the GQ Creativity Awards photoshoot.
The GQ Creativity Award stands as a prestigious acknowledgment, reserved for those who stand at the forefront of a world brimming with innovation and creativity. Among this year’s esteemed recipients are F1 racer Lewis Hamilton, Hunter Schafer, Asake, and Danny McBride. As part of the award ceremony, Asake engaged in a captivating photo session and offered insights in an interview with GQ Magazine.
Mr. Money with the Vibes, more commonly known as Asake, burst onto the Nigerian music scene in 2022, steadily ascending towards prominence ever since. While he acknowledges his music’s recent success, he reveals that his journey towards this achievement began years prior, tirelessly striving for his breakthrough.
He said, “You have to understand: I got there in two years, but I’ve been working for years”.
When asked about his Grammy nomination and how Tyla won, the superstar said he did not feel like he lost. The most nominated artists (Asake, Davido, and Ayra Star) all said that the important thing to come from the Grammy was the recognition given to the Afrobeat genre and their ability to be there.
He expressed gracefully that “It’s not a loss for me. I might just get more next year. But in my head, I was not even taking it too seriously. I appreciate the fact that they nominated me—I won’t lie, that’s a lot to me. Even me, I didn’t see that coming this soon. I’m relaxed about it. Maybe because I know there will be a day that win will come”.
He conveyed that he is working on his third album. He expressed that he is a spiritual person and listens for direction. Asake said, “I’ll never limit myself on one thing. I might wake up tomorrow and tell you I want to do an all-reggae album. Maybe that’s where God just directs me to”.
