Grammy-winning Afrobeats sensation Burna Boy has once again grabbed headlines, this time for calling out UK bloggers.

In a social media post, the exact platform of which was not specified, Burna Boy reportedly took a swipe at bloggers who shared a photo of him without his trademark beard.

While the precise details of his criticism remain murky, numerous Nigerian news outlets have highlighted Burna Boy’s frustration with what he perceives as misplaced priorities. Some reports suggest he questioned the significance of his appearance being newsworthy when there are more pressing issues deserving attention.

This isn’t the first instance of Burna Boy using his platform to address what he sees as unjust treatment by foreign media. His recent critique follows closely on the heels of offering financial advice to his fans, stressing the importance of cultivating strong networks.

Whether Burna Boy will further expound on his grievances with UK bloggers remains uncertain. Nonetheless, the discussion surrounding the role of social media and the portrayal of celebrities in the global sphere is bound to persist.

“I Told Them,” Burna Boy’s seventh studio album, has reached a noteworthy milestone on Spotify, establishing it among his top three albums.

It has become one of the most streamed African productions on the platform, with an astounding 400 million streams. With guest appearances by 21 Savage, Dave, Seyi Vibez, J. Cole, GZA and RZA of the Wu-Tang Clan, and Byron Messia, the album was released on August 25, 2023. Four singles—”Sittin’ on Top of the World,” “Talibans II,” “Big 7,” and “Cheat on Me”—preceded the album.

However, the true milestone lies in Burna Boy now boasting three albums with over 400 million streams each: “I Told Them,” “African Giant,” and “Twice as Tall.”

This achievement distinguishes him as the first African artist to accomplish such a feat, as no other African act has more than one album with over 400 million streams on Spotify.
